The Story of the Welsh Lovespoon
Traditionally, Welsh lovespoons were hand carved by a young suitor and gifted to the woman he hoped to marry. Each carving symbolised his love, commitment and intention to provide for their future together.
Over time, the lovespoon has become a treasured keepsake — gifted to celebrate love, weddings, anniversaries, new beginnings and lifelong friendship.
At The Welsh Lovespoon Studio, we are proud to continue this beautiful Welsh tradition, creating meaningful pieces that honour heritage, symbolism and craftsmanship.

About Us
Hello, we’re Marianne and Chris, proud owners of The Welsh Lovespoon Studio.
Marianne was trained in the traditional art of Welsh lovespoon carving by experienced Welsh woodcarver Phil Arnold, and now hand carves each piece herself, continuing these time-honoured techniques with care and precision.
Our wood is locally and responsibly sourced from Wentwood Forest — the largest ancient woodland in Wales and one of the oldest in Britain. By using timber grown on Welsh soil, every lovespoon carries not only traditional symbolism, but a genuine connection to the land from which it came.
Each piece begins as natural Welsh hardwood, carefully selected and individually hand carved into a keepsake rooted in Welsh heritage and craftsmanship.
We hope you treasure your piece of Welsh tradition as much as we have loved creating it for you.
All the best,
Marianne & Chris
