Perfect Valentine's Gift = a beautifully handmade lovespoon made by Phil using quality lime wood. Spoon approx. 9" tall, comes in quality lidded gift box with history of the lovespoon or can be bought loose with a tag.

The tradition of carving and giving romantic wooden spoons to those you love originated in Wales, UK, back in the 17th Century and was closely followed by other Celtic nations. They were originally seen as a love token with which the carver would show off his practical skills to his intended wife and family.
The tradition continues to be recognised throughout the World with hundreds of ornate spoons being carved and gifted each year for special occasions such as Weddings, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Christenings, Valentines and more. A love spoon is something to be cherished for life and is a perfect wall hanging.
Each spoon has a meaning depending on the symbols used. The following is a guide to some of the symbols used and their meanings:
Hearts/Love & Affection; Cross/Faith; Lock/Security; Anchor/Steadfastness; Twisted Stem/Growing Love; Dragon/Protection; Balls in Cage/Number of Children; Chain Links/Years Together or Children

I was taught wood carving by my late father John Arnold, who himself carved love spoons for over 30 years. Using many of the carving tools he passed down, I carve all of my work from local hardwoods such as Lime, Sycamore and Alder. I firstly sketch a design onto a suitable piece and then cut out the basic shape using a scroll saw. I then enhance the spoon with intricate carving before spending a great deal of time sanding and finishing with an expensive shellac polish which helps to protect the beauty of the original wood.
