History of The Lovespoon.
Originally Lovespoons were given to a young woman by her suitor as a symbol of his intentions and to demonstrate to her Father that he was capable of providing a strong family.
Today, these unique hand-crafted pieces have become treasured decorative items to be hung in homes as a token of Love and Friendship.
Traditional symbols are showcased and celebrated in our pieces at The Welsh Lovespoon Studio to keep an authentic look and feel to a time-honoured gift.
Heart – For Love . Two hearts on the same spoon can mean that love is reciprocated
Cross – Faith and Marriage
Bells – Weddings, Anniversaries or Together in Harmony
Bird- Love Birds. Lets go away together. Stork represents a new birth
Diamond - Wealth or Good fortune.
Horse Shoe - A symbol of Good luck and Good fortune. Wedding
Key or Lock – Home . Our Love is Safe. Security. The partner holds the key to their heart
Flowers and Leaves – Growing Love
Dragon - Protection or Symbol of Wales
Hi, my name is Marianne and together with my partner Chris, we are privileged to be the owners of the Welsh Lovespoon Studio. We have worked alongside Welsh woodcarver Phil Arnold who has over 10 years experience in wood carving.
Our wood is locally sourced from Wentwood Forest, which is the largest ancient woodland in Wales and the ninth largest in the UK. Helping us to produce a Lovespoon that is unique and a true piece of Welsh tradition.
We hope you enjoy your piece of Welsh Heritage as much as we have enjoyed making it.
